T Shirt Designs - Luke and Alex

Hi everyone. For the first few weeks we have enjoyed designing our T-shirts.We both believe dying our T-shirts was our favorite part. Although we did not particularly enjoy the sewing, the tie dying made up for it.We have learnt lots about Operation Smile over the past few weeks.Using fabric paint was like using normal paint, except if you get on your clothes it won't come out.Why don't you try making one at home and change someones life?

Operation Smile - Besa & Kynaat

I am very excited about doing Operation Smile. In class we saw a video about a girl with a cleft palate. We felt very sorry for her. It made our teacher and other children cry. I can't believe that all these people have a cleft palate. we really feel sorry for them.

Operation Smile - Kynaat and Khadra

So far Operation Smile has been brilliant. We learnt lots about Operation Smile and where we are sending the t-shirts. After watching Kohinoor's story it made other people cry. We felt sorry for her. What if you had a cleft palate? How would you feel? Operation Smile is including other subjects like Geography, History, Religious Education and more. It was really fun doing the t-shirts!
Why don't you try making t-shirts at home? You can send it to India so other children that have cleft palates can wear them. Wouldn't that be really fun? You could save thousands of lives!
75% of children go untreated. Help the Blue Peter appeal by making a gown. Bye for now!

hi! I really enjoy operation smile. We are really upset for the children in India. But operation smile is making gowns for them, some volunteers took part in some operations. In Year 5 and 6 we are making lovely colourful gowns so they don't get scared whilst they are having the operation. After the operation they get to see themselves in a mirror. They also get cheered up by the gowns we send for them.

Operation Smile - Isra & Besa

I love operation smile it is a very interesting lesson. The teachers have done a lot
of hard work to organize this. We had a fun time creating our t-shirts for operation smile. We had to decorate them with different things. Some of us used fabric paint, different materials, sewing and tie dye. We can't wait until they receive them and we hope they will like them. We would like to do more however we have to send them back to India were people have cleft palates. Now we are just finishing off our t-shirts we are very excited. We had to cut out the back of our t-shirt, then we had to tie bows on which was also fun. Miss Jensen and Mrs Dean helped us do this part!
Hi people! Operation smile is so cool! Our class (6P) is having great fun working on our t-shirts .We are so excited to finish them. They are off the hook! Hi troops, for the last few weeks we have been doing operation smile and we made fantastic designs on shirts. We are helping children in India with a cleft pallet. Also we have done it with class 6J. Yo Jorda+n
Operation smile is really exiting and we are helping some
Children in India who have cleft pallet by making some hospital gowns.
Class 6p have been designing hospital gowns it was very exiting and very amusing. We are doing this to help some children in India with cleft pallet.
I love Operation Smile! Especially tie-dying. I like the cute ribbon that you sew on.
It also gives sewing practise. I like fabric painting on shirts it is much better. What do you like doing in art?

Operation Smile C.B

The Operation is going very well!
We are working on Blue Peters appeal. We are very pleased to say we have started and they look good!
The Operation is working in 51 countries.
That’s an awful lot! Operation smile is all about helping children cleft pallet and lip; it is all going well because most of the dye we had to use is done!
We all know 50 gowns means 1 Operation; however we will do more by giving a round about 100 gowns so 2 children get to have a new life! My gown is going well but a bit funny because it is hard to use the felt! This subject covers geography and art and design and technology and sometimes computer time! Are you getting involved? No well why don’t you change a child’s life?

Hi! We have been doing fantastic work on Operation Smile .I think this is a brilliant way to give kids in many countries an opportunity to get this operation and be a normal child. These poor children have to live with this up until even today at the age of 13! This is really sad because some children don’t get this operation done! How could someone tell a little kid she might need to stay like this forever! Anyway we got to go, tell you some more about this later!

Our class t-shirts

Hi,
So far, the project has been great! All of our top designs have been going well. Many people have tie-dyed their shirts. However, a lot of people have gone strait to decorating and painting. It has been a lot of fun making all the different patterns and styles. We bet all the children who are going to have a cleft lip and pallet operation are going to enjoy the t-shirts.

Peace out,
Callum and Jamie

Me and E have been working on blue peters appeal (operation smile). Operation smile works in 51 of the poorest countries in the world. Operation smile helps kids that have cleft pallet. The gown for the surgery costs £3 each. Every T-shirt we make saves £3 for another operation so if we donate 20,000 T-shirts we will have raised enough money to let 350 children have a life saving operation. So if you have time at home get an old t-shirt and decorate it with lots of fun things to make a child in India smile.

Help a child have a life saving operation!!!!!!!!!!!!
Operation Smile is going pretty well!

Today we stared our t-shirts which went quite well for me! We are very happy to be working on this new Blue Peter appeal and I think many children across the world will be happy to see out t-shirts. We tried to sew and paint. I enjoy painting the best. I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.
LETS ALL HELP CHILDREN WITH OUR SHIRTS!

Hello!! Operation Smile is really cool! Our class have just started to design our shirts! Some of us have started to tie-dye and paint but some of us have just started and finished drawing on our shirts! They all look really colourful and we personally think that the shirts will look really nice on them, the children in India! We only have 2 weeks to finish them but we feel that we can finish them by then! We all are really enjoying doing our shirts! We have some really cool designs! We extremely hope that the children in India love the shirts and have a good surgery even though it is scary! I bet they will have some lovely smiles after their surgery! We have seen a little girl on a video that after her surgery looked really different and beautiful! We wish we were doing this longer! We love it! Thank you! From R.B and M.D! :) x

Class 6P have been designing hospital gowns for children in India with a cleft palate .We have enjoyed doing our project on operation smile. It has been a great experience to learn about this and we are glad that we have joined this appeal. This is so cool!!

We have been trying different materials for our designs(hospital gowns) , such as tie dying , fabric paint and sewing.

We hope our gowns turn out to be a good standard and make the children who get these gowns to forget about the past and start a new fresh life....

Year 6 Tie-Dying Begins

The classrooms look like a bomb has hit them but the tie dye looks fantastic. Work started today, in earnest, creating our t-shirts from our designs. Here is some of the work in progress.

Miss J

Our T-Shirt Designs - Ronnie, Ashaurn & Jake

In class we have been studying operation smile we have planned our t-shirt design. We tested tie dye, painting fabrics and sewing. We have finally designed our t-shirts. We used tie dye, some of us used paint and we are very excited to send our t-shirts to India. We had a great and a fun time designing these t-shirts and creating them. We cut up the back and Mrs Dean and Miss Jensen helped us.

T-Shirt Design - Sadia & Durre

Hello me and my class is helping Blue Peter with operation smile. It is very exciting as our teachers are making all the lessons enjoyable. It is an exciting project. We find it very sad when we see people with cleft pallets. It actually made us cry a bit when we watched the video of a girl with a cleft pallet! Our favourite part so far is all of it,because so far we are having so much fun and the best bit was when we got to do some Tye-dye!The worst was when we had to watch the video with the people with a cleft pallet.

So exciting!

How exciting is this! We're getting closer and closer to creating our gowns. We've planned, tested materials and designed what we want our gowns to become. We've also been learning all about cleft lips and cleft palate. I think the whole class felt sad when we watched the video with Kohinoor's story - even though it ended so well.
My favorite part so far: the tie dying! We may have only been using paper towel - but the results sure looked good. I can't wait to read some student blogs about what they've enjoyed with this project so far.
So watch out in this space for student posts and some pics of us creating these awesome designs.

Welcome

Welcome to our new blog. This is the place that we will be sharing our progress and our work as we contribute to the Blue Peter Send a Smile appeal. For more information on the appeal, click on the links in the right hand side bar.

Thank you very much to all the parents who have sent in plain, adult-sized T-shirts for the children to design as surgical gowns. We appreciate your support.

Enjoy the project everyone.
